Down payments
Take a deposit now and the balance later.
Down payments let an order be settled in two parts: a deposit now and the balance later, set as a percentage or a fixed sum, configured per payment method. It suits made-to-order work, where production starts on a deposit.
How it appears
The customer is asked to transfer the deposit rather than the total. The figure shown at checkout, on the order received page and in the email is the deposit, and it carries a unique payment code of its own.
Matching a deposit
Incoming Payments matches against the figure being asked for, not the order total, so a deposit is matched on the deposit amount. An order expecting three hundred thousand today is found even though its total is much larger.
